Helsinki Safe City Network
The Helsinki Safe City Network is a Helsinkian cooperation network that is tasked with promoting safety and the sense of security in Helsinki.
In practice, the network enables a gathering of common views on phenomena that endanger safety in Helsinki. It identifies signals that endanger safety and it plans preventive action.
The network focuses its attention particularly on
- Segregation between neighbourhoods
- Thwarting gang formation
- Stepping in against hate speech
- Prevention of radicalisation and violent extremism
Additionally, the cooperation group intends to discuss subject entities that are likely to weaken the social cohesion and add to the polarisation of society. The phenomena of neighbourhood segregation, gang formation, hate speech and violent extremism are not necessarily linked, but they are prone to generate polarisation and a sense of insecurity in Helsinki.
Helsinki Safe City Network includes representatives of these organisations:
- Children of the Station
- City of Helsinki: the City Executive Office and the divisions, i.e. Education, Urban Environment, Culture and Leisure, and Social Services and Health Care
